To use a custom domain name, you will need to modify the DNS Records wherever you purchased the domain. This will include editing the CNAME for the subdomain and adding TXT Record (instructions below).
Step 1: Modify the DNS Settings of your Custom Domain
Domain management systems differ in their interfaces for each domain provider, but the basic steps to add a CNAME are similar. You need to add a main CNAME record
Log in to your domain registrar account (e.g., GoDaddy, Google Domains), then locate the DNS settings or management page for your custom sub-domain.
Add CNAME with value - customers.closelyhq.com
Look for an existing CNAME record for "www" and click pencil to edit.
If there is no existing CNAME record for "www", click 'Add' and select CNAME.
3. Fill in CNAME Fields - "www" is the subdomain of your root domain.
Host or Name: www
Points To:
TTL: 1 Hour
Click Save
Please note that you can only use the subdomain. You can use any name instead of "www". This name will be added to your main domain
Each registrar has a different interface, so check their help resources if needed. Here are some popular providers:
If your provider isn't listed, search for “Create a CNAME record” in their help section.
Step 2: Set Up DNS Records
After you add the main CNAME record in the domain field. You'll see the next record, which should be added - For SSL verification (DVC)
In total, after you add the main record, you’ll see instructions to add two DNS records in your domain registrar or hosting provider’s control panel. This step is important to prove that you own the domain
Step 3: Confirm Setup
After adding the 2 CNAME records, go back to your Branding tab and click “Ready, check now.”
What Happens Next?
If DNS is correct:
You’ll see a message saying “All good, please wait while we finish the setup.”
After a short wait, your domain status will switch to Active, and you’re all set! Usually, it can take up to 24 hours for your domain to be verifiedIf DNS isn’t found right away:
Sometimes DNS changes take time (up to 24 hours) to update.
You’ll get a message like “DNS not found yet, please check back later.”
Just wait a bit and try again — your domain will become active once the records show up.If DNS records are missing or wrong:
You’ll see an error with tips on fixing it or a note to contact support.
Double-check your DNS setup and try again.
Test your Custom Domain
Open a new tab or window in your web browser and type in app.yourcustomdomain.com.
Your Closely website will open if your DNS settings are configured correctly.

Changing Your Domain
If you need to change the domain associated with your account, this cannot be done directly through the system. To request any domain changes, please contact the support team via live chat or via email at [email protected] with the name of the new domain record
